Currently, the Droid family of smartphones at Verizon falls into many categories, world phones, dual-core, 3G and 4G LTE Droid smartphones. There are many Droids on the market right now, and the Droid 3 will be in stores tomorrow. The question that Droid fans are asking is, "Is the Droid Bionic worth waiting for?"
The Droid Bionic supposedly will have all the latest and top features for the smartphone power user and a super dual-core processor and 4G LTE access. Unfortunately, it was delayed for remodeling earlier this year and may not have a release date until July 28 or August 4. Leaked documents also suggest a huge 4.5" touchscreen.
In order to decide, compare each Droid to your needs and what they offer (see chart). Your choice boils down to waiting for all features of the Droid Bionic or choosing your Droid according to unique features, today.
The Samsung Droid Charge has 4G LTE, a super AMOLED touchscreen but does not have a dual-core processor.
The Droid Incredible 2 has recently been updated to Android Gingerbread 2.3 and is a touchscreen world phone that uses the 3G network.
The Droid X2 has a dual-core processor, large touchscreen and 3G access.
The Droid 3 has a dual-core processor and QWERTY keyboard and is a world smartphone.
If you need a QWERTY keyboard, the Droid 3 is the best choice. Text messages don't use a lot of data, so heavy texters should have not problems with the Droid 3.
Video viewers, for data reasons, should look at the Samsung Droid Charge because it also has an HDMI out port. Although the Droid 3 and Droid X2 offer HDMI data mirroring, they can be considered if you download your video via Wi-Fi because video requires massive data.
For world traveler's who roam around the world, the only Droid choices are either the Droid 3 or Droid Incredible 2.
We've made one of our Dare 2 Compare charts of all the current Droid smartphones available from Verizon (or read Dare 2 Compare all LTE smartphones on Verizon Wireless). You can also read reviews of the the Droid X2, Samsung Droid Charge or HTC Droid Incredible 2. A review of the Droid 3 will be published on Sunday.
Our chart shows the list price of the Droid, but online retailers are reducing the initial price of each smartphone by quite a bit.
If you already have a Droid smartphone with an unlimited plan, you will be grandfathered and can get either an unlimited plan for 3G or 4G LTE access for $29.99 a month. New customers will have to chose from a usage-based data plan.
Online retailers have greatly reduced the prices of the previously released Droids.
Online retailer Amazon Wireless has already discounted the Droid Incredible 2 to one cent for new and renewing customers, while Wirefly has a cheaper deal.
Amazon Wireless discounted the Samsung Droid Charge for new customers to $129.99 and $199 for renewing customers with a contract. It's also discounted at Wirefly and LetsTalk.
Amazon Wireless is discounting the Droid X2 to $99.99 for new customers and $119.99 for renewing customers.
