Import and Edit MPG in Davinci Resolve Easily

MPG allows lossy compression with little loss of quality of audio and video for easy downloading due to the less space needed for storage. This file type offers small file sizes with high quality. MPG files are also listed as MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files.

MPEG-1 was designed for coding progressive video at bit rates of about 1.5 million bits per second. It was designed specifically for Video-CD and CD-i media. MPEG-1 audio layer-3 (MP3) has also evolved from early MPEG work.

MPEG-2 was designed for coding interlaced images at bit rates above 4 million bits per second. MPEG-2 is used for digital TV broadcast and DVD. An MPEG-2 player can handle MPEG-1 data as well. MPEG-2 is not the most efficient at file compression, but it is commonly used due to compatibility with various programs, but excluding Davinci Resolve.

In Davinci Resolve supported video format, codec and extension page, we see that Davinci Resolve only supports two kinds of video file encoded with MPG (MPEG2): MXF OP-Atom format, XDCAM MPEG2 in MXF file extension and MXF OP1A format, XDCAM MPEG2 in MXF file extention.
