Guide: How to Import, Sync, or Stream Your Content to Apple TV
One of the best features of Apple TV is that it is automatic—there’s no manual uploading necessary. If you set it up right, it automatically registers on Apple TV as long as you buy something from Itunes. Before you importing videos onto your Apple TV, you need to make sure that the video you are going to import is supported by Apple TV. What if you have only
DVD? You need to convert DVD to Apple TV video firstly with DVD Ripper or a simple DVD to Apple TV Converter.
Download the latest version of Itunes. If you have a version pre Itunes 7, it won’t work.
Get a high definition TV. You could stream perfectly and nothing will show up if you’re TV isn’t digital-compatible.
Either use wireless technology using Airport or Airport Extreme. If not, connect an Ethernet cable to your Apple TV box—a little more cumbersome if your computer and TV aren’t close together. A high-speed internet connection is also highly recommended.
When you open Apple TV, it will show the list of available wireless networks. You can also enter in your own SSID network.
If you’re familiar with syncing an Ipod, Apple TV works identically. Select “Syncing” from the Sources menu—though this is the default setting. You’ll need an Itunes account/password. Open Devices in Itunes and click on Apple TV. It will import your Itunes library. You can also choose different Itunes libraries to sync via the Sources menu in Apple TV or individual shows using “Select TV shows” or “Select Playlists” in Itunes.
Streaming is available as well—different than syncing. With streaming, the content is not uploaded to the Apple TV’s harddrive—helpful if you want to save space of the 40 GB. Open Itunes and Apple TV. Choose Sources in Apple TV, then select “Connect to New Itunes.” In Itunes, click the Apple TV icon next to “Click to Set Up.” Streaming relies on a high-speed connection. You may be able to sync but not stream if you have a slower connection.
